GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP)—Shin-Soo Choo got ready for Indians training camp by going to boot camp.

After a tough 2011 season, the Indians outfielder spent four weeks with the South Korean army, fulfilling a service requirement for all men in his homeland. As part of a 180-man unit, Choo went on six-hour marches carrying a 50-pound knapsack, learned to shoot a gun and tossed hand grenades. The training not only got him into peak physical shape, but it got him mentally tougher and gave him time to contemplate his life.

A perfectionist, Choo said he can now better deal with failure and is able to focus better than ever before. Choo struggled on and off the field last season, when injuries and an arrest for drunken driving consumed the 29-year-old.
Just like so many American players that sacrificed million$ to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Oops, sorry none of them did that ... NOT a ONE!
